when customizing quick launch it doesn't appear correctly when locking it "see pics unlock/lock". Also empty space appear between the icon and the arrow. Quick launch UI menu should be updated.

jojo99 good idea but it would take space and it wouldn't look as nice like the apple launcher or objectdock there not ready yet for such a nice functional launcher. people try to customize Quick launch. you don't really get the same look when you lock it.
Yeah, this happen in the toolbars too, small gaps when locking/unlocking
Two things here :
1. Try letting the title be shown on Quick Launch and lock the Taskbar after hiding the icons with the next toolbar on taskbar. On some display resolutions there appears a cut icon from Quick Launch before the chevron !!!
2. This is why the Windows Sidebar is useless : no one designed a Quick Launch tile (eh, sorry Gadget) until now. In the Longhorn development phase there was something like that in there if I recall well. Also, Recent files and recent places gadgets are a must.

Simple fix, user error! Unlock task bar, click and hold that textured area on the right, left of Uuntitled - Notepad". Drag it left. Lock it again. Voila!
Easily fixed, but it is an annoyance still. My bigger beef with the quick launch is the little >> button to show more icons. That button needs to be bigger or more obvious that you need to click there to show more icons.
I get annoyed with this bug even in Windows XP. Thanks for reporting. +1
I've always hated this in Windows. I think they should just get rid of the unlock/lock 'feature' and just have it automatically resize depending on how many icons you have. After a certain amount of icons it would cut off and give a more link. Problem solved.
I like being able to choose how many icons are displayed in QL. However it makes no sense to have empty space when locking, and the viewable space is inconsistent when changing between locked/unlocked. Windows should definately keep the same # of icons visible when toggling states, and should always remove extra space when locking. +1

I would opt for a single button that has the things you want in the order you want - to this end all I have in QL bar is "ShowDesktop" and "PStart".
Pstart is a little program launcher designed for portable drives, it runs at start up and appears in the system tray, I use it to launch other programs. I keep a short cut in quick launch in case it disappears from System Tray (when explorer crashes)
If I could put pictures here I would, but I can't, so I won't
excellent. I really like your idea for quicklaunch.
This has always annoyed me to no end. I like your concept.
I've always had to play with that little annoyance. I am able to get my quick launch to show what I want now, but I don't think it's right for everyone else to go through as much trouble as I did.
I believe that locking the taskbar/quick launch shouldn't change the number of icons displayed. So if 4 icons are visible when it is resizable, shrink it down so only 4 (plus chevron) are visible when locked.
I also like the idea for the extension.
THIS PROBLEM IS ALREADY FIXED... I MEAN IT NEVER EXISTED... JUST BEFORE LOCK THE BAR... MOVE THE ARROWS DELETING AN ICON... THIS WILL BE RECOVERED AFTER LOCK AGAIN
I don't understand why we should need to manually resize this - the quicklaunch should automatically size - behaving a little bit more like the OSX dock (i.e. you can drag icons around and they move fluidly)
i like yours picture
Screw quicklaunch, why not use the start menu, or desktop icns???
I don't agree with this exactly. But I do want to see the Quick Launch-system get overhauled. But I haven't tried 7, either.....

QL should be a separate item, not part of the taskbar.
