I know. But the instrument to hide POST can be created. Call it "Windows EasyStart" and give the stickers "EasyStart compatible" to motherboards and notebooks with this technology. It's not more complicated, then ReadyBoost.
it's a lot more complicated than Readyboost, you're asking Windows to replace BIOS, and not with EFI but with a custom and proprietary firmware.
Won't happen anytime soon, although I would expect the transition to EFI to start picking up speed.
As noted, this isn't an OS issue, just that PC's generally still work on highly dated low level io system..
*EFI that are seen on Macs should become common on PC's in the next 5 years.. I believe Vista SP1 supports EFI booting now?

Windows has no control over the POST at all, POST is done by the BIOS. Apple are able to control this only because they control the hardware that Mac OS runs on.
