Wireless Network Speed

Submitted by ruffrichard on June 15, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

When I want to check the speed of my wireless network, I have to go through an additional 2 dialogs... the annoying pop-up menu first on the status bar, followed by the network and sharing centre, before finally getting the option to check the status of my connection. And I DO have to do this, because although hovering over the icon will give me the signal strength, it wont tell me the speed... which we know, at times can have no real correlation! With Windows XP I used to be able to double-click on the icon to check the status, and since double clicking it now only brings up the menu that pop-ups up anyway when we hover over it, why can't we just keep that feature anyway, it wouldn't be harming anyone!?

Either.

A.) On the pop-up menu that appears, show the speed of the connection as well as the signal strength or

B.) Enable double-clicking the icon to bring up the connection status.

Does that number actually mean anything?

Double clicking to see connection status: +1

I could hardly understand the description of the problem. Why not to simply put "ease of access to Wireless Network Status", like it was in Windows XP? Voted up though.
