Global Improvement of the Font Dialog Box Experience

Submitted by thenonhacker on June 14, 2008 to Aesthetics, Legacy, Usability

This is the cousin of the "Revamp the Color Picker Dialog", and the Dad of http://www.aerotaskforce.com/view/637

First , allow to "Display Font Names as Font Previews" like in Microsoft Word 2003's Toolbar Font Selector. This is BIG TIME SAVER.

Second, allow me to Compare Fonts using the selected text as the default sample. Then let me decide the final single font I want to use.

Third, give me the option to condense large Font Familes (Adobe does this), so that my list becomes shorter. Thus, variants like Condensed, Light, Thin, Bold, Ultra will be displayed in a drop-down list.
Also See: http://www.aerotaskforce.com/view/315

Fourth: A simple way to flag some fonts as my Favorites.

Fifth: Add simple filters in the collapsible Advanced Panel:

- Supports Unicode?
- Monotype Font?
- Script / Cursive Font?
- Dingbat Font?
- Favorite?

If you vote this up, you may indicate which of these mentioned solutions you prefer.
