Inconsistent search placement, icons, size, and text.

Submitted by DeathSeeker on June 13, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons

I'll confine this to just 10 programs and a dozen problems for now.

01.) There are three different magnifying glass icons, a blue, a grey and a white one.
02.) There are two different hover effects for the magnifying glass, hover over doing nothing, and hover over applying a grey/blue button background.
03.) There are 3 different arrow types, grey button on without hover, grey button applied during hover, grey/blue button applied on hover.
04.) There are seven different bar sizes. Ranging from small, to large, to dynamic.
05.) One includes a branding icon to the left, the others do not.
06.) One program adds elipses, the others do not.
07.) Some state the search location, others just say Search. (Fixed in Windows 7?)
08.) The darkness of the fonts ranges from program.
09.) The background color is different on half of them.
10.) There are three different border styles.
11.) The placement varies in /EIGHT/ of the programs. From top to bottom, to left to right; some inside menu bars, some below.
12.) Some choose to italicize the text, others don't.

I could go on but you get the point. :P

A single font size and color.
Single background.
One icon and hover style.
A standard default size.
Near universal top-right/second "bar" (Explorer) placement.

This has better verbiage than the previous submission so I'm +1'ing it.

Note to the rest: if you're making duplicate submissions, take a hint from this guy ;)

What I don't understand is that all the Windows Live applications (Photo Gallery, Messenger etc. shown here) use the Aero style Windows close buttons (Minimize, Maximize, Close.. you get the point?) but Vista itself uses this ugly fucking Aero Basic thingie...
Couldn't they just have added a normal Aero like Basic style?
*gonna make a new submission*
