Dialog windows default size and ability to resize

Submitted by OneFingerSnap on June 12, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Dialog Windows default size is not always ideal and furthermore many times they aren't resizeable for no apparent reason.

Windows should present a default size based on the current desktop resolution. It makes no sense to present a dialog whose size was clearly chosen for the time when everyone used 800x600 desktop resolution. Many times things are crammed in a tiny space for performing certain tasks and the first thing the user has to do is enlarge the window in order to work comfortably. Furthermore, I feel that non resizeable windows should be used only those situations when they make perfect sense.

It's not easily doable in a proper way. Let it be like it is. Voted down.

Wasker, life (and programming) is hard ;-) but does MS want to improve their products or not?

I'm all for making certain dialog boxes resizable. Maybe you should give more examples.

Ex: The View tab in Folder Options, Choose Details from the View menu in Windows Explorer, the Security Permissions in object properties, or really just anything that has to do with permissions, etc.

This is my #1 bug in every version of Windows so far. From opening a file from within Word to saving an attachment in Outlook the window that opens is tiny and cannot be enlarged. Makes me curse Gates every time I have to actually DO something under Windows. And I don't care if it is hard to do, it should be done!
