Why is there no album cover?

Submitted by maxico86 on June 11, 2008 to Aesthetics

There should be the album cover shown in the media player when minimized to the taskbar.

Two things. First, I completely agree, and to this date wonder why they still can't create an attractive media player for the Vista environment. The whole thing needs a lot of work.

Next, I don't think this is directly the Windows UX team's fault. There appears to be a separate team working behind WMP.

Excellent UX Suggestion.

I bet the Media Player Team will implement this in the next version!

I've to add: Please give us a button to hide this thing when you opened it accidently. It is very annoying that you have to wait for so long until it goes away.

@GRiNSER: I've tweaked my registry settings to never show it if you hover over it (very annoying).

Q: Can I change the timeout for the pop-up (toast) window in the taskbar player?
A: You can do this in v11 by creating a REG_DWORD value named "DeskbandFlyoutTimeout" under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences . If you set it to 0x0, it'll never show up. If you set it to 0xFFFFFFFF it'll always show up. Anything in between it'll show up for that many milliseconds. The normal setting is I believe 3000ms. If that value is not present, the default is used.

Windows Media Player taskbar mode has been removed from Windows Seven in favor of the new taskbar functions.

Christ no. It's already very, very annoying when I accidentally mouseover it as it is. It's fine when the songs switch, but even then I don't see a reason why it should take more space.
