I like your idea of creating a live view of the taskbar. they should just have a taskbar setting and control all the taskbar settings under one tab

Taskbar preview image doesn't exist in Windows 7 due to the new Taskbar replacment.

Actually its the sidebar icon from Windows Vista Beta 2 (you can read more at here: http://www.askvg.com/interesting-facts-bugs-and-goof-ups-in-windows-vista/) and as MrDan said, it dosen't exist in Windows 7.
