Display Progress Bars on Taskbar Buttons
Currently, you have to click or hover on every dialog box or browser to see its progress.

Display Progress Bars in the Background of Task Buttons. This could be a thin green strip right at the top fo the Task Button (reserving the Background for any Blinking Notifications).
This means that Developers should be able to program the background color of Taskbar Buttons.
With this UX enhancement, this will save you time checking:
- Copy or Move Files Progress
- Windows Media Player Playback Position
- Download Progress for Internet Explorer
- Check Mail or Send Mail Progress for Outlook
- Web Page loading progress (wt least for the current tab of IE or Firefox)
- File Compression Progress for WinZip or WinRAR
- Office Word 2007 Save Progress (and other apps that save big files)
- Apply Filter Progress for Adobe Photoshop
- Installer Setup Progress
- Program Compilation Progress for IDE's like Visual Studio or Eclipse
and many more...

I'm voting this one down just because of the non-Vista File Copy Dialog. Let me know when you're serious about this.
Added new image attachment.
@xiphi: Fixed.
Ok, I voted it up now. :)
Kind of like OS X apps show their state (like a number for new e-mails) on their icons in the dock would be nice!
That would be a godsend for a taskbar icon. The taskbar is so useless right now...
Very much fixed in Windows 7. :)
Changed status from [Not fixed] to [Fixed]
