Disk Cleanup Must Support Cleaning INDEX.DAT for More IE Privacy

Submitted by thenonhacker on June 8, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Legacy, Usability

INDEX.DAT is one of those files that cannot be deleted in Explorer or Command Prompt, and you have to use 3rd party apps like CCleaner to get rid of it.

INDEX.DAT contains URLs of your previously-visited sites. It is the *Index* of your Temporary Internet Files.

Even if you clear your Temporary Internet Files, INDEX.DAT still maintains a history of URLs.

Enhance Disk Cleanup so that when it clears the Internet Explorer Cache, it also deletes IE History and even INDEX.DAT with no hassles!

Correction: Long, please delete this, it's not a User Interface issue.

Thanks to those who voted, by the way! As a security enhancement, this is so needed, because with programs like "Index.Dat Reader" (Screenshot), we'll never know who else will take advantage of the Visited URLs stored in INDEX.DAT
