Sidebar shuffles gadgets

Submitted by wasker on June 4, 2008 to Usability

From time to time I notice that sidebar shuffled all my gadget and their order is not the same as it was.

Gadgets must always be in order I selected.

Happened to me on a few occasions, especially when waking my laptop.

I say just drop the entire Sidebar experiment. It was a goofy fashion thing that seemed like a good idea at the time, not least because other systems had equivalents. Keep it in there, but off by default.

Sidebar also doesn't remember its gadgets' setting when they are closed~

This shuffle usually occurs when you force a closure of an application and the user mode session has to be restarted. It's almost like closing the misbehaving app causes the UI to not remember anything and to start over with the placement of everything.

9 times out of 10 the shutdown will be caused b y a crappy widget. try removing 3rd party widgets to see if it goes away.

"Sidebar also doesn't remember its gadgets' setting when they are closed"

there's a script library out there one of the ms guys wrote that widget devs can use to persist settings.
