its like that in Ultra Edit 32 (i have the latest version which supports Vista) and other multiple child window applications. I think Microsoft forgot about it.

An MDI Child window is not a top level Window so Aero effect is not applied by default

I don't they CAN use Aero for MDI child windows. They're not like parent windows. Maybe someone with the necessary knowledge can correct me...

This behavior is because the client area of a window (the content of the window) is NOT rendered by DWM (Aero) but by the program itself in GDI or GDI+ in software. Although it is ugly, it is not that easy (or at all) to fix...
