Reorganization of Windows Media ~

Submitted by hoopla_punta on September 27, 2008 to Usability

This is VERY similar to .Chris's post: http://www.aerotaskforce.com/view/994
I'm so sorry but just wanted to elaborate a bit more.

I'm thinking for this to be in 7 rather than Vista anyway.

THE WHOLE FREAKING IDEA IS TO INTEGRATE ALL THESE PROGRAMS TOGETHER: WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, WINDOWS PHOTO GALLERY, WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER (SLIGHTLY)

Windows Media Gallery. The integrated solution to organize your photos, videos (+recorded/tv shows) and music (+media guide and online stores). Allows tagging, organizing into folders (like playlists for all media), and minor editing. (how about office documents?)

Windows Media Player, will be downgraded to just play and view photos, pictures and video, including your WMG playlists. Editing or adding to your library will link you to WMG.

Windows Media Center, will be full screen solution to WMG.

This is just like Mac OS X, where iTunes manages your music and Quicktime plays your files.

One feature I would like in WMG, is integration to other programs (are they called software, apps or what?), like movie maker or all the other apps that Windows has detected to be able to edit the file. Even life services also can be integrated.

Playlists would be able to handle photos, music and photos. A great function no other has yet. Its like a quick way to make a "movie slideshow" without WMM. You can set durations, background music, and transitions and titles. Woohoo.

With so many different files it would be important to tag! WMG would feature smart tagging for all kinds of media. Not just the whole file, but certain portions of it. So you can select a portion of an image, a stanza a music file or a scene in a movie!
Editing metadata will also be supported.

I think it would be nice to have editing software built-in too. Like applying colour-effects and cropping (even music and video).

Better yet is to have DeepZoom or SeaDragon built in for a great experience.

Just think, Photo Gallery and Media Player rolled into one.

This to be included in Windows 7. I WANT IT TO HAPPEN!!!

Your thoughts are even better then mine. Lets see if people are ready for change or will just be to scared...

Too many words. What's the principal difference with what we have in Vista already? Two-three sentences to capture the essence, please.

I don't understand, WMG? what for? Now we have WMP for musics and videos and WPG for photos and videos
And yes you can tag them
playlist for photos? I don't see the point when you can tag it.
Like OS X? OS X really sucks when quicktime and iTunes are separate problems. It has no photo management program either. iPhoto is separate and doesn't support tagging.

@ Hoopla no problem. I like change. these kids here do not. you have a great idea. we need windows to move away from the old era and in to the new

@ wasker so you base this off the name? The names just a thought doesnt mean it needs to be the real deal. Seriously

@icecone he means merge both of them togeter like media center but no so big and buggy. like the old longhorn concepts

wasker wrote on September 28, 2008, 10:05pm

What I'm trying to say is that you guys put a lot of water into your description. You lost me somewhere in the middle. I'm using Vista with its photo gallery, media center and media player and I'm pretty fine with what I have. All I ask you is to explain what do you want without extra yadda-yadda.

wasker wrote on September 28, 2008, 10:05pm

And, btw, Media Center is not "big and buggy". It's an awesome product.

hoopla_punta wrote on September 29, 2008, 9:33am

@wasker I want integration, live services. A big whole windows family. Anyway WMG is a non-fullscreen like of WMC but with more features and more usable with mouse and keyboard.

Anyway, if you know any forum or "something like this" that lets me post these kind of things, tell me and I'll be packing my bags!

icecone wrote on September 29, 2008, 3:49pm

Won't that be a duplicate?

.Chris wrote on September 29, 2008, 7:12pm

@ wasker read hoopla's comment

@ ice cone if it is so what? get a life and quit tring to cause trouble with "duplcates"

@ hoopla you can stay here if you want. dont let wasker or icecone bring you down. Your idea is a great one. Some people just dont like change and thats fine, THEY will just be missing out..

wasker wrote on September 30, 2008, 12:40am

Chris, go and buy yourself some clue: IT'S NOT A COMPETITION.

.Chris wrote on September 30, 2008, 1:26am

@ wasker Chill out. Your just causing more and more trouble here. knock it off..

hoopla_punta wrote on September 30, 2008, 5:29am

Urm, no need for the comments flooding. I'm staying.

@icecone: duplicate of what? other guy's post? tell me how to get them to elaborate. thanks. (no hard feelings)

.Chris wrote on September 30, 2008, 5:45am

@ hoopla all i'm saying to wasker is theres no need to freak out and start to cause trouble. Icecone and a few others have a huge problem with demoting any duplicate topic and putting it down. If you ask me thats really childish...

These kids dont like change or are so stupid that dont know what you really mean

if these people were in charge of windows, god knows how it would be like....

icecone wrote on September 30, 2008, 1:23pm

WMG will be a duplicate of WMP and WPG

wasker wrote on September 30, 2008, 1:56pm

Chris, I have a newsflash for you: people may vote up and down -- this is why it's called VOTE. Maybe you'll be surprised, but some people may have their own opinion on each and every submission here.

Now, once you chew up this wonderful revelation, STFU and proceed with voting.

Thank you.

.Chris wrote on September 30, 2008, 6:26pm

@ icecone are you retarted? This is to create 1 (ONE) program ONE!!!!!!!!! . God I hate little kids likt yu who dont know anything key word is ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ wasker look at you, your freaking out over nothing. Why dont you get off that computer of yours and go outside and get some fresh air. I know very well people have their own opinions but you freaked out from the start, just demoing the idea because it was to long to read... wah wah wah

News flash: people like to post longer ideas because they want people t vote up. long ideas = more detel You dont tell people go and use photoshop. You tell them why they should use it and what they can do in it. Wake up, this is life.

Both of you kids need to get off the computer now and quit tring to cause trouble. None of us here have time for you and your problems and we all hate it and hate you

icecone wrote on October 1, 2008, 8:53am

.Chris I saw 3 programs in the 3rd 4th and 5th paragraphs
What do you mean by trouble?
Must all of us agree with you and not comment, no questions at all?

@icecone urms, by 3 programs what do you mean? will try to correct if i understand.

.Chris wrote on October 2, 2008, 10:45pm

@ icecone like hoopla said INTEGRATE those programs how hard is that for YOU to understand..

@ hoopla icecone wants everything to be seprate instead of the way it should. INTERGRATED!

JUST IGNORE WASHER AND ICECONE THEY ARE T YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND WHAT US MEN AE TALKING ABOUT

luskaner wrote on October 2, 2008, 11:00pm

+1
I think people have demoted because they did not understand properly this submission because integrating related programs with each other only have advantages

wasker wrote on October 2, 2008, 11:11pm

Chris, you know, the funniest part here is that I actually voted up after I got more info in comments here. Please, please, please, STFU for God's sake.

.Chris wrote on October 3, 2008, 12:07am
