To Sleep or not to sleep

Submitted by applejax on June 13, 2008 to Bug, Usability

Even though the Put the computer to sleep option is set to never in basic power properties, it still shows a Sleep after time in advanced settings.

If the computer is set to never sleep, it should reflect this in advanced properties as well as in basic properties.

Profile and Special Folders limitation

Submitted by applejax on June 12, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Currently, you can redirect special folders such as My Pictures and My Documents rather easily, but you cannot simply redirect the entire User folder.

Allow the entire User folder to easily be redirected.

Start Menu size limitations

Submitted by applejax on June 12, 2008 to Annoyance

When customizing the Start Menu, the menu will hit a limit of how "short" it will get. This leaves a lot of wasted space.

Allow the Start Menu to size itself appropriately based on options selected.

Selection in columns too wide

Submitted by applejax on June 12, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Most notable when viewing an Explorer window in a smaller icon view that spans icons across multiple columns, there is no "dead space" in between columns when attempting to select a group of icons. This makes it extremely difficult to drag (more...)

Highlight the icon and name only, not the whole column, upon selection.

Maximize, Minimize, ICONIFY

Submitted by applejax on June 12, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

There is no good way to monitor the progress of multiple running applications in real-time.

A window should be able to be "iconified". Rather than minimizing to the taskbar, the window would resize itself to a small, live state.

Think of being able to detach the taskbar thumbnail previews and move them around the (more...)

Reorder Applications in Taskbar

Submitted by applejax on June 12, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

It is often inefficient to scan through all open applications that are minimized to the taskbar.

Allow taskbar buttons to be reordered by dragging.

Taskbar clutter

Submitted by applejax on June 12, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

All programs minimize to the taskbar. Having a lot of programs leads to inefficiency when many buttons need to be scanned.

Offer a minimze to system tray option. Perhaps a left click on the minimize button minimizes to taskbar, while a right click on the minimize button minimzes to the system tray.

This would be very useful for programs you want to leave (more...)

Flip 3D Window Selection

Submitted by applejax on June 12, 2008 to Usability

Currently, you have to scroll through every window that appears before the one you want to select in the pile.

When Flip3D is invoked, you should be able to select a window in the stack by clicking on it.
