Windows Key + Scroll Wheel To Cycle Windows or Something Slick

Submitted by purefusion on September 17, 2008 to Usability

I find myself intuitively wanting to do this all the time.

Would be a slick and useful feature, if implemented with little performance issues.

Breadcrumbs Dissappear When Too Long, Leaving Orphan of Current Folder Only

Submitted by purefusion on June 18, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When breadcrumbs get lengthy, they "fall off" the left side of the navigation/address bar, often leaving a single orphaned crumb, which is your current folder. This forces at least two clicks when to want to switch to any folder above it.

Breadcrumbs should be right-aligned, so at least they'll always show crumbs that should be to the left of them. Those that do not fit should still show, cutting off only the letters that do not fit, rather than cutting off the entire crumb.

Native Clipboard Swap Functionality (Edit > Swap; Ctrl+Shift+X)

Submitted by purefusion on June 11, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Clipboard functions are system-native if I'm not mistaken. However, the concept of the clipboard itself is quite old, stemming back to 1981 with Apple.

It's a very useful tool, no doubt, but apart from 3rd party apps, it hasn't (more...)

Edit > Swap
Ctrl+Shift+X

Fact is, clipboard swap functionality will exist some day, and we won't know how we lived without it. Why not innovate today, adding this as native functionality, and encourage application vendors (more...)

Pasting Files Using Ctrl+V in Windows Explorer Doesn't Work the First Time

Submitted by purefusion on June 11, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug

In Windows Explorer (and the file dialogs inside applications), when files are copied or cut, then pasted somewhere else using the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+V), the shortcut keys must be pressed a second time (after a short pause) because the command does (more...)

Ctrl+V should work the first time around. :)

Open/Save Dialog in Adobe Applications Does Not Show Favorite Links in the Sidebar

Submitted by purefusion on June 11, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

Not sure if this is a Windows bug or an Adobe bug. However, when opening or saving files in any Adobe application, the "Windows OS" version of the file-explorer dialog (you can switch between "Adobe" dialog and the "Windows OS (more...)

If this IS a Windows bug, indeed it should be fixed.

If it's an Adobe bug, or if Adobe is somehow grabbing an archaic version of the Save dialog from the OS, someone needs to get with Adobe to get their apps on the right track.

Keyboard Shortcut to Create New Folders in Windows Explorer

Submitted by purefusion on June 10, 2008 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

No keyboard shortcut exists to create new folders. A savvy person can use Alt-F-W-F, but that's highly unintuitive. I'm just disappointed this hasn't already been implemented in past releases...

Ctrl + Shift + N ... Simple enough, isn't it? :)

Windows Key + H to Hide The Currently Visible Application

Submitted by purefusion on June 10, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Windows + D shows the desktop.
Windows + M minimizes all apps.

But there's no option to minimize or hide the current app. There should be something that simply gets your app out of your way quickly without much thought.

Windows + H to hide/minimize the current app.

Unlike Mac's standard Cmd + H, using the windows key keeps the OS-function from interfering with program-specific shortcuts.

Also, might be nice to have an optional setting (more...)

Full Font Manager - Turn Fonts On and Off, Group Fonts, Preview Fonts, Etc

Submitted by purefusion on June 10, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

Along with the ability to better-install and preview fonts should be the capability to really manage fonts. Fonts are one of the major factors that slow system performance on startup, and can also slow down the startup of various applications.

A simple font management interface that has supposedly already been implemented. It would allow users to turn fonts and font-groups on or off by clicking a check box next the the font/folder.

It should also allow users to group classes (more...)

Move the Cursor to the Beginning or End of Selected Text Using Arrows

Submitted by purefusion on June 6, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

In both applications and especially when changing a filename, if you select text then use the arrows to move to the beginning or end of that text, rather than moving the cursor to the beginning/end of the selection, the cursor gets moved to the beginning/end (more...)

When users use the arrows when text is selected, simply take them to the beginning or end of the selection. Pretty straightforward solution.

Deselected Folder Still Opens When Saving Files

Submitted by purefusion on June 6, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug

When saving a file within a program, if you select a folder, then click an empty area to deselect it, the folder still opens when clicking the Save button. The file is not saved at that point.

Assuming the user knows that they inadvertently (more...)

New Folder Creation Slow, Causes Orphans

Submitted by purefusion on June 6, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug

Creating a new folder, then quickly typing the new folder name, often results in an orphaned new folder as the selector takes you to a file or folder once you start typing if the new folder is not added quickly enough. This especially occurs when the (more...)
