Power plan editor window is busy and requires too much clicks

Submitted by wasker on June 4, 2008 to Usability

Advanced power plan editor window looks too busy, settings tree size is way small for such amount of options, each option requires too many unnecessary clicks to access its editor.

Show options editors at-a-glance; make window bigger and not that crowded; put meaningful descriptions to things like "Link State Power Management" or "USB selective suspend setting".

Explorer window taskbar icons don't update for special folders (Documents, Pictures, etc.)

Submitted by Cuppa on June 12, 2008 to Aesthetics, Bug, Icons

When opening a folder with a special icon (like Documents, Pictures, Music, etc.), the icon will appear in the taskbar. However, the icon is not used when navigating to that folder from elsewhere. (For instance, open Documents from the Start Menu. Navigate (more...)

The taskbar icon should update to use the current folder's special icon (if it exists).

Environment Variable Dialog is not intuitive

Submitted by Usman on June 8, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

The environment variable dialog lists all the system variables in a long text in an edit box and only separated by a semicolon. For example, if i have a "PATH" environment variable, which contains 20-30 paths, to edit it would be extremely difficult (more...)

I prefer if the environment variable edit box should be listed in a listview box, (just like visual studio 2008, VC++ directories) so that it can be viewed easily, and edited easily.

Copy/Move Files

Submitted by Manan on June 10, 2008 to Annoyance

The issue occurs when we copy or move a lot of files together. If there is a problem while moving one of the file, the whole thing stops and waits for a User to select an option.

Now this becomes really annoying when you are copying a (more...)

Though there is a 'Skip' option in Vista, I would suggest that we have something like, the erroneous file is automatically skipped and re-tried at the end or the prompt comes right at the end. Now let' say that I am moving 100 files and (more...)

Mixed icons in IE security settings

Submitted by Niclas on June 10, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons

The security settings in IE shows classic and moderns icons in a mixed way.

Replace the old fashioned icons by new ones (suggestion: the same like the others) or replace both icon sets with completely new ones.

Drag-and-drop Breadcrumb Bar

Submitted by brian.shapiro on June 8, 2008 to Usability

You're unable to drag files to folders listed on the breadcrumb bar, and unable to drag folders off the breadcrumb bar. This limits the use of the breadcrumb bar in accessing folders in the same hierarchy, adding this feature would give great convenience (more...)

Allow full drag-and-drop capability on breadcrumb bar.

System Icons: Inconsistent Hover Panes

Submitted by pq on June 11, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons

These are basic informative panels, introduced in Vista, but it looks like each team developed their own "style".
- Font colour, placement and sizes are different.
- Icon size and placement are different (the power one looks really (more...)

Redesign them, taking into account:
- The solution needs to remove the inconsistencies noted above
- They need to be simple and bold (users are hovering over to get the info quickly without clicking) - the important info should stand out (more...)

Add an option for editing the context menu (right click)

Submitted by XtremeSound on June 8, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability

Nowadays, each application we install puts it's own "uniqe touch" on various menus: the desktop menu, IE menu, misc media files menu, etc... The problem is that not every applications lets you disable these items!

Add a simple method for editing those menu items (disable, remove or even move them). It can be placed in the "personalization" panel.
