Submitted by wojtekmaj on June 13, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Okay. So You just want to change behaviour of Power Button in Start Menu. So You right/click on start menu and go to Options and... wtf? Nowhere?
After 4 hours spent on searching this option you found it in... In energy/power options?

Move (or double) option change behaviour of Power Button in Start Menu to Start Menu Options.

Add native H.264/AAC support to Windows 7 media player

Submitted by Red Herring on June 21, 2008 to Usability

H.264/AAC has become the effective cross platform video and audio standard. Windows media player does not natively support either of these formats despite their increasingly commonality & used by all the major companies, video sites, media players (more...)

Solution: Add H.264/AAC support to WMP so that it can handle the MP4, M4A formats.
This will have several benefits:
1) Shows Microsoft is committed to cross platform standards and keeping WMP relevant.
2) Stops (some) users at least (more...)

No keyboards shortcuts in copy file dialog

Submitted by Steven on June 16, 2008 to Usability

When the confirmation dialog box comes up for a file copy/move operation, there are no visible keyboard shortcuts. (Nor invisible ones that I could find).

In XP, "yes" (to overwrite) was the default option and a quick jab on the (more...)

Screen Saver Configuration UI Missing

Submitted by Solar257 on June 16, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability

When the new screen savers shipped with Windows Vista, they shipped without the options to change / customize them. Long blogged about it on Sept. 9, 2006. The option to change them is available in the registry see: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Screensavers\.

Add dialog boxes to allow access to the screen saver customization options that are already present in the OS.

Missing mouse focus for scrolling

Submitted by tino on June 4, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When you open a new window, the focus of the mouse should be in scroll areas to use the mouse wheel. While also previous versions of the OS have never changed the focus automatically when hovering over another window, it has put the mouse focus in new (more...)

New windows opened by the user should always get the focus.

or: Automatically change the focus to that window under the mouse pointer.

Taskbar and Start Menu Properties

Submitted by Zerlot on June 8, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

The start Menu setting is mix up everywhere and wasted space. Classic Start menu is still available

Clean up the start menu properties and remove the classic start menu or move it elsewhere to add space for other settings. look at the "after" pics edited with Windows Paint. it's much cleaner

Menus disappear when you choose an item from them

Submitted by zot on June 11, 2008 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

Many programs use menus with on/off choices on them. Quite often you want to set several of these options at once (e.g. Sort by name & sort descending in file explorers).

However, when you choose one item, the menu disappears and you (more...)

If you hold down SHIFT when you choose a menu item, just keep the menu open.

Explorer windows have no title or icon

Submitted by Guenette on June 12, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Title bars in all Windows Explorer windows are empty. The space is there, it's just not being used for anything.

Although the breadcrumb bar is close, this doesn't help for complex paths or when only the title bar is visible. (more...)

Revert to behavior of previous versions of Windows. The existing Aero style can remain, just draw a window icon and title.

The previous option to show just the current folder name or the full path was also helpful. Consider appending (more...)

Better Aero Glass UI support for developers

Submitted by Se7en on June 7, 2008 to Usability

There are lots of issues such as drawing controls on the Aero glass interface and just integrating it. Having an integrated feel with the OS is important for developers.

The .NET framework and languages like C# should support easy integration for implementing the Aero UI into applications.

Missing volume control in Photo Gallery when watching videos

Submitted by tino on June 14, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

If you have a digital camera that also takes videos you may know this: If there are videos in the same folder, Windows Photo Gallery plays them, which is nice. But you can't control the volume which could be annoying.

Not only provide play and pause buttons but also a volume control. There is space where the two buttons to rotate images are.

Keyboard Shortcut to Create New Folders in Windows Explorer

Submitted by purefusion on June 10, 2008 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

No keyboard shortcut exists to create new folders. A savvy person can use Alt-F-W-F, but that's highly unintuitive. I'm just disappointed this hasn't already been implemented in past releases...

Ctrl + Shift + N ... Simple enough, isn't it? :)

Color Selection Dialog

Submitted by TheNetAvenger on June 8, 2008 to Legacy, Usability

Windows has kept the same Win 3.1 Color selection dialog box, and it needs to go away badly.

(No support for other color models, can't access profiles from it.)

Update the standard Color selection dialog to remain compatible, so existing applications get the new dialog box. If the application is legacy, have the dialog return the proper color Values the old dialog box did, etc.

Features to add:
