Links duplicated and not in order in the "Save as" window

Submitted by icecone on June 12, 2008 to Aesthetics

By default, "computer" is not present in the links folder, but it's present in the save as window.
If we add it so it can be found in explorer, then it will be duplicated in the save as window.
Also, the links in the Save (more...)

Either of these will work
1) check for duplicates and resort them
2) use only those in the links folder as in explorer

New Disk Volume wizard

Submitted by Michael Mc on June 3, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

New volume wizard is not a Windows Aero wizard, though it does have a more Vista-like image at the left.

Implement an Aero-standard wizard.

Task Manager Performance and Networking tabs appearance

Submitted by pilotboy72 on June 12, 2008 to Aesthetics, Legacy

The tabs for Performance and Networking under the TaskManager still use NT 4.0 styles for rendering (e.g. dithered fills for CPU Usage and Memory).

Update the application to take advantage of Vista's UI.

Submitted by JeremyG on June 7, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

There is a great option in Windows Explorer that you can turn off called "Remember Each Folder's View Settings". But turning it off does nothing.

The great thing about turning this feature off is that you can work in explorer (more...)

Fix it

Incomplete and Outdated icons in Windows Directory

Submitted by Mikee99 on June 8, 2008 to Aesthetics

Inside the Windows directory, there are three easily notable directories which have incomplete and outdated icons:

1.) Downloaded Program Files (Very outdated)
2.) Fonts (Someone forgot to include the extra sizes, so it's incomplete)

1.) Make a new icon
2.) Include the 256x256 icon, and all the other sizes in between.
3.) Make a new icon

Gripper Styles

Submitted by pq on June 11, 2008 to Aesthetics

Grippers on controls: they are either grooves (as on the scrollbars), or are "tactile" dots (as on the corner of windows/some toolbars), which come in 2 flavours, small triple lines (as on the taskbar), or larger double single lines (as on other (more...)

- Make them consistently styled (grooves vs dots)
- Display them consistently (single/triple lines - surely if one is more usable than the other, this is the same across the UI)

Windows Logon ("Welcome Screen") Inconsistencies

Submitted by Michael Mc on June 13, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug

With Vista, the "Windows is" was dropped from the logon screen. "Windows is logging off" became "Logging off" etc. Simple. But, some "Windows is" phrases still remain. When installing updates, Windows logs you off (more...)

This is like a major peeve of mine. Just edit out the "Windows is" part altogether. :)

Vector Based Graphics with Scaling

Submitted by QuiescentWonder on June 12, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Sure, I can change the font size and make everything look way out of wack... I'd rather just be able to scale everything to whatever size I want, instead of just the font. Where are the vector graphics that I read would be in Longhorn? I'd love (more...)

If you want to be cheap about it, make some lower widescreen resolutions available. If you want to make people happy, replace icons, images, etc. with vector graphics.
