Folders do not remember icon size settings

Submitted by dguy6789 on April 28, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

The folders in Vista seem to not remember what size icon was used the last time the folder was used. Control Panel for example will sometimes have the icons displayed in a completely different size each time I open it up from a fresh boot.

Remember what the icon size settings are.

Internet Options > Fonts dialog is a mess

Submitted by leaflord on November 14, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

The dialog box for choosing the default fonts in the "Internet Options" is unresizable; this makes the font selection boxes very hard to use.
EDIT:
It would also be convenient if they add the "minimum font size" feature.

Make it resizable. Better yet; refresh the design of the dialog box.
EDIT:
A simpler solution is to change it to a drop down box instead of a selection box.

Increase the Driver Selection list box size.

Submitted by BODYPRINT on November 5, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability

The driver selection list box has been the same size since windows 98. It's very frustrating when you want to see a list of drivers available. Surely it could make better use of the window space. It's understandable that the window may need (more...)

Re-arrange the text to give the list boxes more window height and utilize the wasted spaces. Allow the window to be resized and resize the list boxes accordingly to display the most information possible.

Device Manager/Properties Icon Is Old Style Icon In UAC Dialog

Submitted by aakash on October 5, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons

The Device Properties icon is using the old style icon. To see this, do the following:

1. Use an account that has user level privileges (non-admin account).
2. Access the Device Manager.
3. Double click on one of the hard (more...)

Use a newer Vista style icon.

<FIXED IN WINDOWS 7> Ugly Vista Basic *taskbar* if a window is maximized (caption bar is dark blue), taskbar black

Submitted by antiufo on September 14, 2008 to Aesthetics

Usually, both the taskbar and the caption bar are Aero glassed.
But if you maximize a window, its caption bar becomes dark-blue with Aero reflections (ok), but the taskbar becomes black, exactly like on Vista Basic.

Change the appearance of the taskbar, make it more similar to the caption bar of a maximized window, currently there is no difference between an Aero taskbar and a Vista Basic taskbar, if a window is maximized.

"Windows Security" start menu item when remote desktop to Vista machine

Submitted by Good_Bytes on September 1, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

If you remote desktop (with max settings) using Windows Remote Desktop from an XP or Vista to your Vista machine. The start menu is a tad different (which is normal). It has a new item called "Windows Security", which allows you to send a Ctrl+Alt+Delete (more...)

Update "Windows Security" icon on the Start menu

<FIXED IN WINDOWS 7> Sound Recorder save as type dropdown has misspelling

Submitted by nitrous9200 on August 17, 2008 to Aesthetics

The dropdown box in the save dialog for Sound Recorder lists the option as Window Media Audio File (*.wma) which is obviously supposed to say "Windows Media".

Change the text to read Windows Media Audio.

Edit: this has been fixed.

"Install new font" still uses Windows 3.11 dialog and controls

Submitted by Jcl on August 15, 2008 to Aesthetics, Legacy, Usability

The "Install new font" dialog hasn't been updated since Windows 3.11. It even keeps using the Windows 3.11 folder browser (not just an Aero problem, happens on every Windows version since 3.11, but still, should be updated).

Make Aero Taskforce consistent with Aero

Submitted by GRiNSER on August 13, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability, Website suggestion

The new Aero Taskforce design doesn't really look like Aero.
Examples:
Search box not really Aero-like (whereas the Aqua Taskforce has the correct Apple search box)
Tab buttons currently in old UI Taskforce style...
Post (more...)

Take cues on Aero controls and maybe on Windows Live tools if Aero doesn't provide the right look.

Windows Appearance Dialog

Submitted by Myrrlyn on June 19, 2008 to Aesthetics

When highlighting Windows Aero in Window Appearance in Personalization, the icons displaying what Windows Aero will look like (background window, open window, dialog) use Windows Vista Basic instead of Aero

Change the icon.

Wrong Documents Icon in Send To menu

Submitted by chrismgallen on June 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons

When you right click an object in Windows Explorer, and select the "send to" option, the Documents Icon is different to EVERY OTHER time that is used.

REALLY annoys me that microsoft could leave something so stupid like this in.

Change icon.

Different Personalization Icons

Submitted by Solar257 on June 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons

There are two ways to get to 'Control Panel\Personalization.' One way is through the desktop the other, via the control panel. Lamentably, there are also two icons representing the same location.

Use a single icon to represent the location.

Remote Desktop 'Windows Security' Icon

Submitted by Solar257 on June 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Icons, Legacy

While using Vista's remote desktop feature, the icon pertaining to Windows Security (the equivalent of the ctrl + alt + del splash screen), on the start menu looks legacy and appears to be the incorrect icon size. I wouldn't even call it aliased, (more...)

Replace the icon with a more up to date alternative.

Standardise on "Safe to Remove" confirmation

Submitted by Michael Mc on June 11, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

If you safely remove hardware via the icon in the notification area, you get a dialogue box. If you safely remove from anywhere else (like Computer) then you get a balloon.

Choose one confirmation method and stick with it. I think the balloon works better.
