snipping tool needs scroll functionality
The snipping tool is too limited. Particularly on a small screen not everything that one wants to capture is displayed on the screen. Snipping tool doesn't allow to scroll down a window to select more content than the section that can be seen on (more...)
For small screens it would be helpful if it could make screenshots of window content that goes beyond the screen.

do not move gadgets out on the desktop but on to a dashboard-like seperate layer instead
The sidebar is limited to a small area of the screen. Moving gadgets out of the sidebar to the desktop uses space that one probably wants to use for desktop icons.
Create a mode in which the sidebar can use the whole screen similar to dashboard so one can choose which gadgets he wants in his sidebar and which he wants in a full screen area. This area should be on a seperate layer so it wouldn't affect the desktop. (more...)

a window can't be automatically (!!!) adjusted to its content, only manually
In Windows the user has two choises how he wants to display a window: fullscreen or in a manually adjusted size.
But it is not possible to adjust the size to the windows' content.
The double arrows that appear when going to the edge of a window (the ones you have to use to do the adjustment manually) should by double clicking automatically adjust the size of the window (the width or length) to its content.
It would (more...)

Allow printscreen to copy just part of the screen or just a sub-window
There is no way to copy just a part of a windows to the clipboard.
There are several utilities in the marked that allow just that, but it looks like a feature that should be part of Windows itself.
Add a key combination to the PrtScn button processing to allow for an selectable rectangular area to be copied to the clipboard. Another key combination could be used to select just sub-windows for copying.

Volume mixer doesn't start on startup and I can't start it using Start Menu
Sometimes when you start Win. Vista the Volume Mixer doesn't show up in the taskbar and you can't launch it from the Start Menu. You need to go to the Control Panel and choose Hardware and Sound.
Make it show up always or just enable an easier way to start it.

New Folder Creation Slow, Causes Orphans
Creating a new folder, then quickly typing the new folder name, often results in an orphaned new folder as the selector takes you to a file or folder once you start typing if the new folder is not added quickly enough. This especially occurs when the (more...)

Quick Alt Tabbing Shouldn't show the Alt Tab window
When using the Alt Tab key combo, I like to see the alt tab preview window of all of the open programs. However, sometimes, I know which window I am alt tabbing to and so I quickly press alt tab to switch back and forth between two windows. However, (more...)

Reorganization of Control Panel.
Control Panel is greatly disorganized and hard to use. I don't expect these to be in Vista, maybe in Windows 7
Firstly, Control Panel should be called Control Center. I don't get the idea of centers in a Panel.
Then, (more...)
1. Rename "Centers" to "Panels" and "Panel" to "Center"
2. Access to Panels through Start Menu. Panels can have shortcuts.

Cryptic Filenames (iexplore.exe > internet explorer.exe)
It is time to 'upgrade' filenames of programs in windows. Names such as "calc.exe", "cmd.exe", "hh.exe", "svchost.exe" and many more to more descriptive names such as "calculator.exe", "command (more...)
I suggest, it is time to move on to fullnames. Windows can go up to 255 characters for filenames, why not use it? To preserve backward compatibility, windows can have a virtualized layer (such as currently available in windows that redirects access to (more...)

list context menu entries in the control panel (... and make it possible to edit them)
Many programs make entries in the context menu. Also as far as the default entries of the context menu are concerned some of them are used frequently and some of them rarely. Not every user uses the context menu the same way though everyone is forced (more...)

Start Menu Height
The "All Programs" menu is limited to the height and width of the Start Menu, severely limiting the number of items you can see at once. This seems like a step in the wrong direction, since the very beginning of the Start Menu in Windows 95 (more...)
I'm not suggesting making the old Start Menu style the default, just a modified version of the new one which makes it easier and quicker for everyone to find the software they are looking for. I don't know how, but more space. While the new (more...)
