The system control icon says nothing!

Submitted by maxico86 on June 11, 2008 to Icons, Usability

This system control icon doesn't visualize anything. When you look at it, you would never now, that it has to do something with system control.
On all other devices, like mobilephones, there are shown instruments to visualize the settings.

There should be some instruments shown, like a spanner, etc.

Vista everywhere

Submitted by Derekk on June 11, 2008 to Annoyance

Why can I not get a PC without Vista - I'd MUCH prefer XP.

Vista, for me, and some of my friends, seems to be unstable and fragile.

It doesn't look as good as promised and regularly hangs. I'm not doing anything (more...)

Fix stability
Provide XP as an option

File search "Look in" field, changes to match current folder that you are viewing

Submitted by ldx00 on June 9, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

When searching for something, I generally don't know where it is (I wouldn't be searching for it otherwise!!). So I bring up the search companion (docked in the window I'm currently in) and type a search, if I don't find it, maybe (more...)

As per the title, to have the "look in" field, change to match the current folder that's open.

Annoying Desktop Gamma Color after using FullScreen Apps

Submitted by thenonhacker on June 8, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Legacy, Usability

Some apps and games have poor monitor programming and do not respect my chosen monitor refresh rate. There are games that seemingly change the calibration of my screen, too. So I have to reconfigure my refresh rate, which is annoying especially for users (more...)

Vista must check the refresh rate of my desktop everytime I come back from a Full-Screen Game, Application, or even Video. This will ensure the Color Consistency of my Desktop UX.

Registry data gunk slows down registry queries, that is why there a LOT of Registry Cleaning Utilities like CCleaner to (more...)

Add a menu item under "File" or "Tools" named "Optimize Registry" which will:

1. Create a System Restore Point (which backs up the registry).

2. Scan the registry for ophan entries and other (more...)

Performance Issue History

Submitted by jc4life05 on April 8, 2009 to Usability

As you can see by the picture, the minute I installed Windows 7, I had an extremely significant decrease in reliability.

I feel that your send feedback should have the option to talk with/chat with a live agent from Microsoft. This will assist in troubleshooting specific problems.

Does Microsoft actually read these?

Submitted by rubber gun on October 21, 2008 to Website suggestion

I know this doesn't go here, but there are so many suggestions, and Microsoft doesn't seem to be doing anything...

Someone submit this site to Microsoft, otherwise if they don't read this we're just playing with ourselves

Bring back the old Sidebar from the 4xxx bulids and intergrate it in to the so called "superbar"

Submitted by .Chris on August 21, 2008 to Usability

Submitted by aakash on August 17, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability

It would be very useful if the user could search through the Flip 3d show by searching for a specific program by using its title. For instance, in Switcher (http://insentient.net), (more...)

Create a media libary to house all media files (NOT media center)

Submitted by .Chris on August 15, 2008 to Usability

This idea is to create one central sport to house all your media files, access them and as well as view and edit them.

Almost like Windows Photo Gallery but more advance for other media file types...

do not integrate preview in explorer window

Submitted by G-Z on August 12, 2008 to Usability

The Preview functionality in explorer should not be integrated into the explorer window because it makes it hard to adjust its size reasonably, it often uses space though it is unused and it mostly does not show adequate previews.

Microsoft should use a similar approach than Apple did with their preview functionality in Leopard's Finder. I do not say that often but in my opinion for once Apple's approach is clearly superior.

Menus should scroll gradually based on the position of the mouse

Submitted by antiufo on June 30, 2008 to Annoyance, Usability

Menus are difficult to scroll easily, and scrolling the whole menu takes a lot time.

Windows UX Taskforce Must Be Gaming-Proof

Submitted by thenonhacker on June 15, 2008 to Annoyance, Website suggestion

Prevent "Vote Pollution" and bias. Check this out: http://www.aerotaskforce.com/view/675
It's a 100% valid suggestion (more...)

I have no draft solution at hand, but I know it can be solved by a kind of Credibility System. This will ensure the integrity of votes. It does not have to be complex. And we can wait. But it must be in the plan, because we do not want "Polluted (more...)
