Remember Desktop Icon Placement

Submitted by ryanlm on June 4, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

With remote desktoping being more and more popular, it is very annoying that when I log into my machine and the resolution is smaller and then eventually log back in normally and all of my icons are messed.

There are probably 10 programs out there that fix this, one of them is ultramon, just buy them or do it yourself!

Explorer guessing the type of content in a folder

Submitted by Turbo on June 4, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

The explorer has several templates that set how and what to show about the files. These can be found and manually set in Folder Properties->Customize (which is arguably too clumsy and un-discoverable).

When you open a folder for the (more...)

Stop trying to guess. *All* folders should default to the "All items" template, using the detail view with some relevant columns. Or the tiles view, pick *one*. Only use other templates if the user chooses them, or for pre-configured folders (more...)

Customize/Folder view: Apply to all - how to make it working?

Submitted by damiankrol on June 5, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

That's one of the most annoying thing in (probably all versions of) Windows - how on Earth could I set ONE template (e.g. sort by, list view) to ALL folders? None of existing options work - even if you set it manually, it changes spontaneously in (more...)

Please try to provide one dialog for every folders which will allow user to set the behavior of how folders are/should be displayed. And forget it then. Thanks.

Volume Notification Icon Double Click

Submitted by StormChaser on June 3, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When you right click the volume icon, "Open Volume Mixer" is bolded, indicating it as the default action for double click. When double clicked though, it acts the same as a single click.

When volume icon is double clicked, Volume Mixer should be opened.

Inconsistent font in common file dialogs.

Submitted by SvenGroot on June 3, 2008 to Aesthetics, Bug

The common file dialogs use legacy fonts (MS Sans Serif) in the bottom panel, while the top panel uses Segoe UI.

This is especially noticable on Japanese systems (and possibly other Asian languages as well), where the top part uses the (more...)

Use Segoe UI for the entire dialog.

When resizing the window of Network and Sharing Center, the icons that represent connectivity resizes, out of proportion.

Fix It. Make images resize proportionally, not just stretch it.

Changing Glass Color does not change Blue Outline

Submitted by ryanlm on June 5, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug

When you change the color of glass to something else besides the default - everything changes accordingly except the outer border of a window. I almost forgot about this one, I just stopped changing the color, it looked terrible.

Color the line based on the selected color. Did I really need to type this :)

Submitted by tino on June 4, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Usability

Change the filter to one that matches some files and magically the folder (more...)
