Folder content should be displayed.

[Time] The more clocks, the more setting modes

Submitted by Flora43 on June 19, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

Note -- it isn't a problem with only Windows, it's a problem with almost every clock.

Windows for PCs has a dialog box where you can set time and date. No unwanted questions like „Save changes?”. <- OK

Windows (more...)

Microsoft can't fix the problem with my little clock, but please remove this unwanted confirmation dialog in the next version of Windows Mobile!

Keyboard focus in file dialog

Submitted by Lasse on April 17, 2009 to Annoyance, Legacy, Usability

When navigating the file dialog with the keyboard, after pressing Enter to go into a given directory the keyboard focus is changed to the file name field.

Edit: Yeah, sorry forgot to mention the fact that this happens in Windows 7 build (more...)

The keyboard focus should remain in the list view.

Suggestion about Picture Viewing

Submitted by jc4life05 on April 8, 2009 to Usability, Website suggestion

No integration with Silverlight Deep Zoom for picture zooming. Picture fidelity is not up to par with other sites, neither does it utilize Silverlight's capabilities.

I would like to see the integration of Silverlight Deep Zoom for the reference pictures on this site.

Narrator is running but not shown in taskbar

Submitted by jc4life05 on April 8, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Icons, Usability

As you can see from the picture below, I have Narrator running, usually it starts automatically when I start the computer or return from sleep mode. However, the narrator program is not visible on the taskbar.

This happens in Vista Business (more...)

A simple solution would be to add a troubleshooting feature that is in the action center to remedy this situation. In less words, fix the bug and show narrator when it should be shown.

Performance Issue History

Submitted by jc4life05 on April 8, 2009 to Usability

As you can see by the picture, the minute I installed Windows 7, I had an extremely significant decrease in reliability.

I feel that your send feedback should have the option to talk with/chat with a live agent from Microsoft. This will assist in troubleshooting specific problems.

Filenames covered by taskbar

Submitted by Amtrak7 on January 25, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Bug, Usability

When you have a file as the last one in a column on the desktop and that file has a long enough filename, it is obscured by the taskbar. The full filename of the file in the example is 'The Trains of the Obama Express January 17 2009.flv'.

Make the filename appear to the side or elsewhere.

Include POSIX-style command line tools as an installation option

Submitted by joec2000 on January 19, 2009 to Usability

It would be great if I didn't have to install Cygwin to get POSIX-style command line utilities like ls, sftp, ssh, grep, etc. How many of you guys that jump from platform to platform have typed ls at a DOS prompt?

I know they weren't written by MS, but come on, can't we all just get along? They're free, they're simple and some of them have been around for decades. At the very least make them an installation option.

Use Boot Manager font in Chkdsk and other BootExecute applications

Submitted by Phil_123 on January 12, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

On some localized versions of Windows (since Windows 2000 I think), an additional font is loaded to help display the localized version of the boot manager. But when an app is ran during BootExecute (such as chkdsk when you shut down Windows improperly (more...)

Find some way to let that BootExecute mode keep on using Boot Manager's font, or any other way to make it capable of displaying Unicode characters.

spacebar presses "cancel" in a UAC prompt

Submitted by zomgguy on January 9, 2009 to Annoyance, Usability

I am typing on Windows Live Messenger and doing other stuff as well. Then a UAC prompt comes up in my face and I accidentally press spacebar (because, you know, I'm typing) and it presses cancel.

I know spacebar presses the highlighted button, and by default, the cancel button is highlighted. The cancel button should NOT be highlighted by default (the allow button shouldn't be highlighted either).

Can't easily add the same port to both TCP and UDP on Window's Firewall

Submitted by migueld on December 27, 2008 to Usability

When manually adding a port to the exceptions list in Windows's firewall, one can't add the same port to both TCP and UDP. To do so, one must create separate entries. It would be nice if one could set the same port to both protocols without (more...)

Add a third radio button "Both" so that the user can choose whether he wants the port on TCP, UDP, or Both. OR another solution could be to make them check boxes, so one can check one of them or both (thanks Ensign Joe). Pick your solution, (more...)
