Separate Internet settings from Internet Explorer settings

Submitted by Alok on February 11, 2010 to Legacy

In the control panel, applet "Internet Settings" has more of "Internet Explorer" settings than "Internet" settings.

Of various tabs (General, Security, Privacy, Content, Connections, Programs, and Advanced), (more...)

These two should be separated out. Only Internet Settings should be in the control panel, while "Internet Explorer" settings should be in Internet Explorer itself.

If nothing else, "Internet Settings" should be renamed (more...)

Folders do not remember icon size settings

Submitted by dguy6789 on April 28, 2009 to Aesthetics, Annoyance

The folders in Vista seem to not remember what size icon was used the last time the folder was used. Control Panel for example will sometimes have the icons displayed in a completely different size each time I open it up from a fresh boot.

Remember what the icon size settings are.

Submitted by I'am a pc on December 13, 2008 to Annoyance, Bug, Icons

When recycling certain files, the recycle bin icon disappears from the desktop. The icon title remains and a blank area is left displaying the background behind.

To recover the recycle bin icon, you need to go to personalize and select desktop icons from the left control pane and remove the recycle bin then push OK. After removing the icon, go back and add the icon to the desktop again then push OK. Microsoft (more...)

There's a multiline text box in digital signature viewer. Unfortunately, it unusable: the red circle shows where scroll bar is.

Increase text box size or use some other type of control.

Submitted by The Dark Melon on November 29, 2008 to Usability

Nowadays when you need to manage a service properties you have to search it in a very long list of Windows and third part services and this take a lot of time pointlessly.

Add the Windows Serch Box at the right top of the Services Control Pane.

Right click & Desktop icons vanish when applying Dreamscene.

Submitted by AndrewDB on November 26, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

I've applied a new visual style just recently and I've noticed that Dreamscenes are saying the new theme isn't Aero compatible when I know it is..

I changed back to a visual style I know is Aero compatible and Dreamscenes (more...)

This only solves itself if you go into Control Panel, check PERSONALIZE, and change off of a NON-Dreamscene desktop.

Both icons and right click ability return to the desktop.

Very strange.

Access to 32 bit Control Panel icons in Vista 64 is awkward

Submitted by uKER on November 2, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Usability

In Vista 64, to access 32 bit Control Panel icons, you have to enter a special icon named 'View 32-bit icons'.
This is really counter-intuitive since if you don't know this behaviour beforehand, you will enter the Control Panel and (more...)

32 bit icons should be displayed alongside 64 bit ones, with some sort of visual distinction, such as "(32 bit)" added to its icon label, or an icon overlay.

Remove applications from Control Panel

Submitted by uKER on November 2, 2008 to Aesthetics, Usability

Some of the icons in Vista's Control Panel are not really things that belong in there.
Control Panel icons are supposed to be means to control some behaviour of other Windows functionality.
These should be somewhere else, such as the (more...)

Move mentioned applications to a program group.

Add a control panel for governing default window size and icon view mode.

Submitted by Red Herring on October 27, 2008 to Aesthetics, Annoyance, Icons, Usability

In Vista a windows size has a default one which I understand that Microsoft must have as a standard size but this size is too small on high resolution or widescreen displays.

On top of that particularly Windows Vista fails to adhere to (more...)

For Vista or Windows 7 create a control panel which has three default window size options with a keyboard shortcut attached to each so if need be via a shortcut the view mode can be quickly changed back to the standard one & will affect any open windows (more...)

Services Control Panel: Display OS and third party services in separate groups

Submitted by Digi on October 8, 2008 to Usability

These days many applications are using background services. It would be easier to adjust and keep track of these third party services if they were separated from core operating system services.

One huge list which mixes these together (more...)

Use some sort of grouping mechanism to divide core operating system services and third party application services to their own groups.

Clipboard array standard thoughout windows

Submitted by talkersoft on September 23, 2008 to Usability

Currently the standard windows clipboard only holds one copied item. Similar to MS Office windows should have functionality built into the operating system to store multiple items in the clipboard.

I know everyone is used to ctrl + c and control + v and i am not saying to get rid of that clipboard. I am simply proposing to add some more keyboard shortcuts based off of the number keys so that we will have 1 through 9 additional clipboard storage (more...)

Reorganization of Control Panel.

Submitted by hoopla_punta on September 23, 2008 to Usability

Control Panel is greatly disorganized and hard to use. I don't expect these to be in Vista, maybe in Windows 7

Firstly, Control Panel should be called Control Center. I don't get the idea of centers in a Panel.

Then, (more...)

1. Rename "Centers" to "Panels" and "Panel" to "Center"
2. Access to Panels through Start Menu. Panels can have shortcuts.

3. Each panel would have links to the other relevant panels (more...)
